Anuj Gupta

Partner, ANM Global, India

Just three years after graduating, Anuj is running his own law firm in India. He tells us how a degree at Cardiff, along with patience and focus, helped him to achieve his ambition.

What memories do you have of Cardiff Law School and Cardiff city?

I have lots of great memories at Cardiff Law School. Cardiff Law School was an exciting place to be as there were students from so many countries interacting with each other in many different languages. I used to love chatting with the administrative staff, especially Dave who used to sit at the reception.

I really loved Cardiff as a city. There was always so much going on and it definitely felt like an “up and coming” place to be. Cardiff as a city is a student town, a friendly city and the atmosphere in on a day when there was a match at the Millennium Stadium was electrifying.

As a national Lawn Tennis and a football player, I enjoyed being in Cardiff as I represented the University teams in Football, Lawn Tennis and Squash. Cardiff University provided ample opportunity for students to play the sport of their liking.

There were plenty of excellent places to go out - lots of bars, pubs and clubs and some really good live music venues. Its close proximity to places like Barry Island and the Brecon Beacons was fantastic for those weekends when I just needed to escape from the city and head to the beach or mountains.

How did you find the study programme at Cardiff?

Initially I had a bit of difficulty in understanding the Welsh accent but a few months into the programme I got used to the language barrier and from their on it was smooth sailing. For me, the study programme was a good mix of self study and lecture teaching. The tutorials were a good way to understand the topic thoroughly as there was a lot of reading involved to prepare for each tutorial. Lecturers were very friendly and were always there to give you time and help you resolve your queries.
